Appointments at Pollokshaws Medical Centre

As you may have noticed the practice is continuing to work differently than it did pre-Covid. Due to increasing demands it is impossible to return to the appointment system we had prior to the pandemic.

Privately prescribed GLP-1 medication

We have received a letter indicating that you are taking a privately prescribed GLP-1 medication, these medications are usually called Wegovy or Mounjaro.

Under General Medical Council regulations it is the responsibility of any prescribing clinician to assure themselves that their prescribing is safe, ways of doing this would include taking an adequate history, examining the patient and acting on any appropriate pre-prescribing investigations. Professional medication safety guidelines (NICE) require examination of the patient, this would include objective and accurate weight measurement, at initial assessment and a regular review.

Furthermore it is the responsibility of the patient to provide accurate information to any private prescriber in terms of medical history and current medication regime to allow for the identification of any contraindications which may have an adverse effect on patient wellbeing.

It is the policy of Pollokshaws Medical Centre to not enter into any shared care agreement with any outside providers and as such we will not liaise with any private company who issue a private prescription to one of our patients, as such the risk for this action lies solely with the prescriber and the patient.

General Practice is under extreme pressure and is not able to take on unfunded, non-contractual private work for outside providers.
